AWAKE is currently working to produce its 3rd Event on Capitol Hill in cooperation with
the U.S. Congressional Stop DUI Caucus in September 2009. This event will continue to support AWAKE's
goal of unifying the effort to reduce impaired driving. For pictures and audio from prior events, click here.
Earthdance 2009-Heal The Pacific Gyre
AWAKE created a new website entitled "Heal The Gyre" (www.healthegyre.org). We are working with The San Diego Puppet Insurgency at this year's Balboa Park Earth Fair to raise awareness about the garbage patch in the pacific ocean that is twice the size of Texas. There will be a giant interactive swirling gyre parade performance during Earthfair that will culminate in a collective meditation in the park afterwards. If you'd like to get involved please contact us. Volunteers at all levels are welcome.

On September 13, 2008 AWAKE built and installed a geodesic Art Dome at Earthdance in San Diego's Balboa Park. Earthdance attendees painted individual triangles for the dome with symbolic images of harmony and peace. View a slideshow of the event here. AWAKE will participate in the 2009 Earth Day and Earthdance in Balboa Park.
AWAKE is actively working in Laguna Beach's Top of the World Elementary School's gardening program. We are organizing a garden fundraiser in 2009 with the local nurseries, parents, and school administrators. Gardening for kids is educational and fun!
AWAKE other programs explore ways to create independence and sustainability for the future. As strong supporters of locally produced biodiesel, we share knowledge about alternate fuels, hybrid vehicles, solar energy and wind power that are readily available. AWAKE will be podcasting and performing at the 2009 National Biodiesel Board Conference in San Francisco.
AWAKE grows and encourages eating organic foods that restore well-being to the earth and its life forms. Helping youth create imaginative art, crafts and useful household items from recycled products is part of our sustainability program. For pictures, audio and more please click
here.
EduMedia
AWAKE features multimedia elements in all of our presentations, from music concerts to youth workshops. We've filmed documentaries profiling individuals active in their communities, government, and diverse causes. AWAKE's informative films take a styled approach to important issues that educate AND entertain. AWAKE's audio productions now include The Peacepod. Listen to the "Three R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Podcast here.
Highlights
Emily's Editorial
2009 has been a wonderful journey so far.
Watching the inauguration of President Obama moved me in many ways. America is rising above thoughts of separation. The people are participating in their government again after years of apathy. America's recovery will most certainly be the result of the effort of the people. The Peacepod started its "I Have a Dream" statements in 2004 and now, 5 years later, a big dream has been realized for many.
AWAKE just returned from San Francisco where we participated in the National Biodiesel Conference for the fifth year. It was a joy to perform with Chuck Leavell of the Rolling Stones, open for Melissa Etheridge and sing with NBB stars in their own right, Joe Jobe, Ed Hegland, and Scottie Nisula.
AWAKE is honored to work with the Patrick J. Flanders II Foundation for a
sixth year to prevent impaired
driving at their annual golf tournament, March 27. Come play!
May we appreciate this chance to Be...alive and breathing.
